I had played the original XCOM-UFO Defense and was looking forward to this game. Glad to say it lived up to my expectation. This replicates a good deal of the original and the turn based ground combat is a blast(literally). The aliens are smart, lethal, and will kill you if you are unlucky or do something dumb. No spoilers here but the end game plays out a little differently so if you want an exact remake you may be let down some. Have not tried the muli-player yet but it is available. You can level up soliders, assign them skills when leveling up (usually a choice of 2), and change their weapons and armor loadouts. Of course, you can change names and appearances to recreate your buddies and send them to do battle.Base building is just OK but gets the job done. Game was a little shorter than I expected and probably less than 40 hrs of gameplay.Very enjoyable and it has that one more turn/one more mission addictiveness that Firaxis is famous for. You will find yourself reloading when your veteran sniper just got ambushed. Almost everything is destructable and, yes, I died more than once when I took shelter behind a burning car and the gas tank cooked off a turn later. I would highly recommend this to fans of the original X-Com or to anyone who likes turn based strategy gaming.
