Great game! I've played the older Sid Meier Civ III game but haven't played the newer ones yet, mainly because I was so happy with the original version I had. But it was definitely time to jump back in with a new version and I decided to pick up the Switch version over the PC version. This way I can play on the go, at work (during breaks/lunch), while riding as a passenger, or on our vacations. Yes it lags a little bit towards the end when there is a lot of AI movement. But if you haven't played it on a computer you won't realize it and/or it isn't that big of a deal. Having this amazing game available on a potable format is so worth it! Graphics are great and words are readable even on the smaller handheld screen. With the Switches ability to come out of sleep mode very quickly it is easy to play a turn or two and then turn it off and then come back a little bit later and ice again pick it up quickly. Functionality is great, Nintendo did a great job at porting this game!! Recommend to anyone.

Just as I remembered it from the 90's on my computer. There are some differences but ultimately it was very similar. The switch version was excellent and well built.

My first civilization game and I love it. Steep learning curve, but worth it. The switch edition has a few small glitches/bugs. I think out of my 50 hours I had one small “patch” of white pixelation show up on a city’s banner. After I closed the game and restarted it was gone though. It does drain the switches battery in about 3 to 4 hours (on the upgraded switch).

As an avid pc player I took a shot at this version for the portablity. So is it worth while? The pricing for all versions is aweful. At first glance yes this is $20 and the pc version is typically on sale just under that. But the expansion pass is $50 while on pc the complete game is under $50. The whole thing is steep for a niche pc game, and the expansion does add complexity to the formula but the basics are still the same. So the expansions are a wait for a sale but get them kind of deal. The visuals is a step down than the PC obviously. The UI is greatly simplified which is understandable seeing the game plays portable and only has 720p to work with. On the big screen it looks to be 1080p, but performance is lacking on both ways to play. Frame rate is in the 20s constantly dipping into the teens when docked towards the end, not a deal breaker on a computer board game but not pleasant either. Just expect lowish pc settings that you might not even notice after awhile,it still looks good. But zoom out and pop in takes effect on animals and building complexities. Load times are much longer compared to a pc with an ssd. Even the cpu taking its turn gets noticeable. Its about 4-10x slower. Load into a game and it takes over 2 and a half minutes v.s. just 22 seconds on my pc. Between the framerate and loading this loses a star. Really the frame rate should be fixed, but most likely its a cpu limitation. There are also complaints of the ui being off screen, simply resize your disp.
