I've been waiting anxiously for the premiere of PICARD since the day the first announcement was made, because I knew I could expect nothing less than the best from Sir Patrick Stewart -- and the first episode definitely delivered. So many wonderful callbacks to the world of ST:TNG, a brand-new mystery, fascinating characters, beautiful cinematography. Part of me wishes the entire season was available now, but I know I'd plunge through it too fast if it was, and I want to savor it. Dole it out to myself a bit at a time.I'm paying no attention to the complainers and naysayers. As I was saying to a friend the other day, something like this is very, very subjective. What passes as "real Star Trek" for me might completely fail for someone else (and it's their right to be unhappy if they have to be). But for me personally, because ST:TNG was always "my" Star Trek (the series I was the most invested in, in a variety of ways), returning to those much beloved characters in a way that opens my imagination and makes me smile with fondness, gasp at the surprises, and shed some tears over terrible loss and missed expectations -- it's all I could ask for, and then some.Five stars. A thousand thumbs up.

I thought the show was pretty good.I think Patrick Stewart who's 79 and supposed to be 94 as Jean-Luc had a great make-up job and really did look 94.That said he did a pretty good job for a 94 year old but Kirk probably still looks younger.Seven was the best as always. I wish she had a bigger more active role in the show.Maybe a big accidental fight scene between her and Elnor where they then become friend’s afterward’s.Speaking of which, the new karate kid would probably have been even better if they gave him some real speaking line’s.When he wasn’t killing people he was busy acting like a small child even though he's the biggest guy in the show.I didn’t really like the ship captain's 5 holographic clone’s.The idea sound’s good but I thought it just came off as annoying and spent too much time on a character that didn’t do much.I also thought him dressing up as some kind of pimp was the low point of the show. The crying doctor was annoying. Almost every scene she was in, her face was all contorted in pain about being forced to be a DB.I was temporarily happy when I thought she died but I should have known better.Ryker was a little more likable then in TNG and Troy a little less unlikable.Hue was likable as always. I was surprised he left so suddenly. The Android girl I liked better as the dead sister.Rafi was pretty good as Picard’s drunken, x-captain, old service buddy, sidekick.Data had several small part’s in the movie but I think there might have been even more if he was a.

First of all, to all the people griping about the CBS sub needed to watch this: I hear you, and feel the same way, but you do the show a disservice by complaining about exec decisions. As for me, I've become a 'subscription surfer' - in this case, I cancelled Netflix to watch CBS for awhile. As for the show? If you're only a casual fan, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it, it's very well done. If you're a Star Trek fan, you should be delighted. I know I am. I was a little worried about Patrick Stewart's age, but he's still has his sharp, commanding presence, softened a bit by his 'Number One' (dog) and his two helper Romulan friends. My only complaint is having to wait for a new episode each week (gee, just like the old days!) May Patrick Stewart live long and prosper, along with this show.
