If you play Collectable Card Games, like Magic:TG or Game …

If you play Collectable Card Games, like Magic:TG or Game of Thrones, you know you can't always find an opponent. Fantasy Flight has created a beautiful card game that takes care of that issue - you can play alone against a set senario deck. You create your own decks from a large card pool using heroes, allies, events and attachments in four different traits: Lore, Leadership, Knowledge, and Spirit. But choose carefully - you can't include every trait in your deck. After creating your deck, you'll travel to Mirkwood or hit the trail to search for Gollum. You'll fight spiders and orcs and various monsters from the Lord of the Rings mythos. Can you succeed? The core game has enough beautifully illustrated cards to create various decks using plenty of different strategies. It comes with three different scenarios, of increasing levels, and plenty of colorful counters and detailed rules. There will be chapter packs soon to expand your decks and introduce new scenarios and gameplay mechanics. And if you do happen to have a friend available you can tackle the scenario together.I recommend this game for card game fans.

If you like Lord of the Rings books, movies and want to re-experience it in a new way get Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. This game lets you assemble some of your favorite characters (some you may have never heard of too) and complete quests from the trilogy. The art work is fantastic and different from the movies which will give you a new experience of J.R.R. Tolkiens world.I personally got tired of games like Trading Card Games because of spending tons of money just to find one card. This LCG (Living Card Game) is totally different letting you battle against the encounter deck and complete quests with help from friends. Every core set has the same cards so you will be able to make at least one really good deck and one pretty good deck. Also, you may get expansions which doesn't just have new exciting ally's, heroes, attachments, and events, but it also has brand new adventures. This game has a lot of possibilities. Enjoy it!

Fantastic game! This works great as a solo game (although it is more difficult played that way). Card art/quality and game mechanics are excellent. Would highly recommend for those searching for a game with a lot of depth and replayability.Note: This core set is fun, but once you're really hooked you're going to want to expand your collection. Be prepared to spend money. Additional card packs need not be purchased in order of release, however certain "cycles" can only be played if you have the corresponding case game or expansion.I recommend the following: Core Set (this product), then any/all of the 6 Shadows of Mirkwood Adventure packs (they are currently overpriced because they are temporarily out of print). Alternately, after this core set you can get the Khazad-Dum Expansion and move right into the 6 Dwarrowdelf Adventure packs for some good dwarf/elf fun.

I knew from the first quest that we played that we would be playing this game for a long time. I don't personally find much replay value in any given adventure, but there are so many between those included in this box and all the adventure packs, that it would be a long time before that even became an issue. The art on the cards is amazing, the flavor quotes are interesting and relevant to the card, the mechanics are fun. The rules are a little complex for novice gamers, but once you learn them they become second nature. If you've ever played Magic: the Gathering or similar card games, you will pick this game up naturally. The fact that it is 100% cooperative is a fresh take on the card game scene for our group, and a welcome change.
