Red Faction: Guerilla is a very, very welcome game. For fans of the first two games (from the PS2 / original XBox platform), this is a no-brainer. Rest assured, THQ has resurrected the franchise in a major way. Mars, Geo-mod, miners, soldiers, shooting, insanity.Once again, you're on Mars. It's sometime after the events of the first two games...200 years or so after the original. This time you're Mason (is this like the most common video game name?) and you've come to Mars to work as a miner. But Mars is anything but stable. I don't recall the entire plot here, folks, but basically after the (evil) Ultor corporation was defeated by the Earth Defense Force (EDF) and the Red Faction rebels, the EDF became the new oppressors. The Red Faction is back, as a scrappy rebel alliance of miners and citizens of Mars. Once your brother is whacked by the EDF, you have no choice but to join the Red Faction and basically begin the violence and insanity that hallmarked previous installments.Thank you, THQ! Like any good game, this combines elements of other good games, and adds its own angles. Think of it a bit like the older Red Factions (obviously), Grand Theft Auto on Mars, Halo, and maybe the Godfather. Mars is huge...there are about five separate sectors you need to re-claim for the people. You get to drive around in various vehicles, GTA-style, and you can carjack the Martians/colonists (they basically acknowledge it's for the cause). You have to reduce the EDF influence in.
