Star Trek Deep Space Nine - SNES Game (Retro Fam)

Played it once so far and feel after expansions for more people it will be pretty darn fun. It was good at 3 players learning rules but was long, as expected. Not for light gamers they will just annoy the heavy ones. Can easily add a 3rd wincon of mass expansion (all control nodes on a planet [10 total]).I've heard it feels like Twilight Imperium, which I've sadly not played. I refer to it like Civilization in space: the board game with bonus Betrayal like random rooms (systems).Got this early-ish at $75 so feel the components could be better. MSRP of 100 is a lot, could be 75 so I do believe I got value for what I spent but don't pay more for it. Only reason I dropped a star off.As for the Trek theme it is darn close. Each civilization has its own special rules that feel like them. Federation can't interfere with colonized worlds. Klingons never retreat, never surrender planets. Romulans are suspicious of other cultures.

One of the best games ever if (a) you're a Star Trek or scifi fan and (b) can round up three players. There's a lot of strategy to this, along with resource management. It's a 4X game. There's some luck to it too, however. If, as one player, you consistently draw multiple Warp 3 planets or hazardous phenomenon before you've improved your shields--and particularly if someone else draws nothing but uninhabited worlds ripe for the picking--good luck recovering from that. It can be done, but you'll need some Trade Alliances and excellent gameplay on your part.

All I can say is this is a great game. I brought it to my monthly board game group and those of us that played it really enjoyed it. If you love Star Trek, 4x type games, you'll love it.

I first learned about this game about a year ago and have had some fascination with it ever since. This fascination has recently bloomed into a full-fledged obsession after watching a lot of board game reviews on the YouTube. I wanted to play! What should I play?I know! I've been a Trekkie for the last 20 years (I won't tell you how old I am, but that's not an insignificant portion of my life) and have toyed around with a couple Trek board games. But this was a game that I really wanted to burn my free time with. This is the game I wanted to play.I watched reviews. I watched playthroughs. I don't have much experience with complicated board games. There are a lot of rules. It's a lot to wrap your brain around initially. After a short while, it just started making intuitive sense. I like the rules. I love how each of the factions (Federation, Romulan, and Klingon in the base game) each have slightly different things they can and can't do. It adds an interesting dimension. I love how little strategies start to emerge after you've played it for a while; little truths appear. "Well, I could spend my resources here, but I see that my opponent seems to be mobilizing over here." "Shoot! I can't do that! I need that for later!" "Well, I don't want to go here because he'll just swing a system in and, suddenly, he's in my backyard."
