This game has been a blast so far. There definitely is a learning curve while you're learning what powers do, minor and major. As well as the powers each spirit has. Then you learn the flow of the game, how fear cards work, and the awful presence that is the blight! Once you get through a couple games then the fun really begins. There are all sorts of scenarios to add to this game to "spice it up". As well as the fact that you can play as different spirits to keep the game ever changing. Whether it's 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 players (5-6 with extra materials), this game is a blast. The game does require a lot of planning though! You need to talk with your teammates and work out the best method of removing invaders from the land to try and win the game. There's almost always multiple ways to play a single turn, all that have their pro's and con's. And it's up to you and your teammates (or just you if you're playing solo) to figure out what's best for this turn, and what sets you up for next turn. All in all, this game is PHENOMENAL. Despite a learning curve in the beginning (what game doesn't have a decent learning curve though?) it becomes very enjoyable very quickly! If you're looking for a good teamwork based board game, this is definitely for you!

I just played for the first time with my wife - we did not use the 'tutorial' mechanics and jumped straight into a basic game without scenarios / adversaries. I have to disagree with the "major undertaking" to teach criticism that I have seen others give - I thought it was mechanically straight forward, and if you read the strategies on the different characters it wasn't too difficult to decide on two spirits that would complement each other (I went with the Rampant Growth guy and she went with the Thunderchild). There were a few points where we had to stretch our minds to puzzle on how to not get overwhelmed, but we squeezed out a win without any prior knowledge of the game.A very engaging co-op that I look forward to playing again. This is coming from a guy who typically despises cooperative games.

Between my friends and I we have 3 copies of this game because we love it so much. I almost feel like the cover artwork doesn’t do it justice. It’s very, very strategic, and the possibilities are endless with different spirit combinations and power cards you can get. I love the fact that you can basically plan for up to 2 turns almost perfectly in advance. With each round expect a long time discussing strategy, synergies, and planning with your group - I love that aspect of it.The “story” and diversity of spirits is also awesome. Each one feels really unique in their own way and plays well to the “lore” of that character. We went back and bought the promo spirits on their website directly, and will probably buy the expansion in the future whenever we master the more difficult levels of this game.Note that this is not a casual board game. It requires pretty intense discussions, multi-turn planning, and collaborations. So if you’re looking for something more casual or to play with younger kids this is probably not a good option.
