I really enjoyed this book! I lived in Iceland for …

I really enjoyed this book! I lived in Iceland for 11 and 1/2 years and found this book to be so real to life. The author described the little nuances of Icelandic culture perfectly which is not something most people can do. It was engaging from beginning to end. There was some fantasy regarding one of the sagas and The Lord of the Ring series, but it was skillfully woven into the book. Now, as far as whether Tolkien did get his ideas from the Ring series from the Icelandic sagas, that may have been true as I found a few similarities while watching the series. I speak Icelandic also and found the translation of the Icelandic words and phrases that he used were correct and used appropriately in the story. The author's description of the places mentioned was spot on. I felt like I was back in Iceland driving around again and could actually see the landmarks he mentioned. Granted, a person can get this from just looking at a map, but it seems as though the author has spent a good deal of time in Iceland to describe the topography so well. I am hooked on this series now and really hope the author has more books in store after The Wanderer.

It ends with Smilla walking out on ice near Iceland.I flew over the poles to London and prefer to think that the blue hole of water I was was like the one in Smilla's book! You wil.really love this exciting book which leaves you wanting more. I hope there will be.
